Long Family Web Site!
What Island? I suppose to most people it would be hard to distinguish that there is a Wildwood Island, except by looking at a map. The Island, is due to a divide in the Kings River as it exits from the Sierras onto the San Joaquin Valley floor, then rejoins far downstream. The divide nurtures a rural greenbelt area that is forested with Canyon Oaks and Sycamore trees. The Island is traversed twice when driving the scenic Blossom Trail in Fresno County. Nestled by the foothills of the Sierra Madres, Wildwood is surrounded by orchards of Nectarines, Peaches, Almonds and Oranges. Because the National Forests and Parks are so close (40 minutes to the Kings Canyon National Park gate) we bought a Volkswagen Camper in 1980 to have ready for our frequent family frolics to the mountains. While the family has grown up we still find the Island perfect.
