Roof Preservation |
|
My task this year has been house renovation. The biggest project this summer was to clean the roof and treat it with a preservative. This meant swinging out with a rope and harness or hanging off a ladder and applying the spray-on preservative. |

Roof Preservation 2 |

This picture was taken in August near the end of the application process. Slow going but now finished. Our first rain was last week and all is well. |

Fishermans Wharf |
|
By August 16th, with temperatures staying over 100 degrees we decided we needed a "fog-fix". Along with Carolyn we made a fast weekend visit to Bob and Beverly Stoeckel in Monterey. The wharf has changed with new tenants everywhere. Our favorite Italian restaurant, Mikes is gone, replaced by a Mexican restaurant. But, there are still a few open fish markets with free clam chowder samples. |

New Seal Beach |
|
Approaching the wharf from the parking lot we were greeted by new sights and sounds. The whole shoreline was littered with arf-ing sea lions. They appear to be boneless, as if poured out over the beach and rocks. |

Rock Group |

Looking back towards the wharf, the sea lions were not only on the rock in front of the restaurants but were scattered among the pilings and timbers under the wharf. Making interesting background sounds for the people eating at the restaurant above. |

Carol's Remodel |
|
As a part of the house renovation, Carol has completely remodeled her bedroom. Since this is a secret project I can only show this work-in-progress picture I took before she threw me out. |

Greek Dance Lesson |
|
August 22. This was the second year for Judy, Carol, Carolyn and I to attend the Greek festival at Saint George Church in Fresno. We met with Tom and Nancy Stoeckel and enjoyed a night of hand-craft booths, ethnic foods, and greek dancing until late at night. Here, a local TV weatherman dons his traditional garb (and untraditional red tennies) and gives instructions to first-starters. |

Opa-Land |
|
Nancy Stoeckel and Carol were a part of a long chain of dancers and stayed with it for hours. The head of the chain is someone who knows how things work, but they like being mischievous and direct people into and through other chains or wind them into tighter and tighter spirals. Centipede live. |

Onlookers |
|
Not everyone (wisely enough) danced. There was a large area of seating to one side of the parking lot for watching and eating your loukoumedes and drinking Greek coffee (read: ground coffee paste). Carolyn and Judy sat here. |

Clovis FBC 100th |
|
On August 23rd, Clovis First Baptist Church celebrated their 100th anniversary. Since my great uncle was the first pastor for the church in 1903, Judy and I were invited by a distant cousin to come to the dinner and bring our pictures. There was a long list of ex-pastors and senior members invited to speak. It was an interesting FIVE HOUR, UNINTERRUPTED dinner presentation. |

Backyard Picnic |
|
At the end of August we invited the Mark & Lori Carroll & family to relax and spend the afternoon with a BBQ out by the lake. The micro-feast was enjoyed by all. |

New Office Digs |
|
For several years now Evelyn Burriss and Judy have been crammed into a tiny space on the fourth floor of the health department. Since their work involved creating emergency plans, what little space they had was filled in with an ever increasing number files and binders. This is their new office on the third floor. |

Airforce One |
|
While working in the morning on the garage roof, I was made aware that the President's arrival by having Airforce One flying LOW, directly over the house on their landing approach. Very impressive! I waved. Since I had to go into town anyway I decided to go by the Fresno Yosemite International (FYI) airport and take this picture. This was taken just before the return of the motorcade and the tightening of security. |

Chapel Doors |

Peoples Church renovation: The next three pictures will only mean something to those who have seen Peoples Church before the construction began. This is a view from inside the old choir rehearsal room looking through missing office walls at the entrance of the Chapel. |

The auditorium is now stripped and empty. The ceiling and non-support walls have been removed, pews and carpet taken out, balcony cleared. You can see the rood from one end to the other. |

Carol in Small Group |

10-26 Services are now held in the Fresno Christian School gymnasium. Carol, who often sings in the church choir, got to sing in a small group for this special event. (Second from the right end) |

10-26 Birthday party at Tom and Liz Stoeckels house in Clovis. We all welcomed the newest member, Alison Lily Bogard, born August 31, 2003. Liz Stoeckel holds Alison while Emily Bogard watches in the background. (The bowtie is useful for UHF signal reception) |
